Mason Communication Student takes knowledge to George Mason Mortgage
For immediate release:
A communication student has recently found herself on a new path by using skills acquired at Mason.
Cassie Souvagis made an early transition into the working world before finishing her undergraduate degree. She has taken a dive into the mortgage industry as a closer during her senior year at Mason.
“It was a tough decision, because part of me wanted to get my undergraduate schooling out of the way, but I did not want to turn down this opportunity,” said Souvagis.
She began working for George Mason Mortgage in May of 2015. Souvagis previously managed a retail store while taking classes full time, so she easily welcomed this new challenge. The skills that she has learned so far as a communication major not only aided Souvagis in landing the job, they help her on a day-to-day basis.
“I am constantly in meetings with superiors, drafting proposals and documents, and meeting with borrowers every day,” said Souvagis. “Although I am not technically working in the communication field, there are numerous points throughout the day that take me back to something I have learned here at Mason.”
The hours are long and the business is fast paced, but Souvagis knew what she was signing up for since her family currently works in the same business.
“It can be stressful at times, but any good job challenges you to be better on a daily basis,” said Souvagis. “That was the appeal of the business; constant excitement.”
